1.3.2 Fuel Cell
For this project, we had to build an airboat that uses a hydrogen fuel cell. We used a solar panel to generate electricity which is then transfered to the hydrogen fuel cell. The hydrogen fuel cell acts like a battery and it holds the energy from the solar panel and then sends the electricity to the motor with the propeller.
Conclusion Questions
1. Low performing boats took on water and had a very low water displacement. In the high performing boats, everything was hooked up correctly and the propeller was successful.
2. If we were given more time, we would make the boat perfectly symmetrical so that the boat would move straight. We would also add a second fan, motor, fuel cell and solar panel so the boat could move faster.
3. Hydrogen fuel cells could be linked with wind energy and solar energy sources and the hydrogen fuel cell could be the battery in the system. It will store the energy and it can be used when needed, not only when the wind is strong or there is a lot of sunlight.
